OKLAHOMA CITY (July 22, 2013) – deadCENTER Film Festival has promoted Oklahoma City resident Alyx Picard to head of operations and festival coordinator. In this role, Picard will manage the nonprofit organization’s day-to-day operations, such as events, projects, budget, and coordination of committees for festival planning and execution.
“We’re delighted that the success of the festival has allowed us this opportunity to expand our full-time staff,” deadCENTER Film Festival Executive Director Lance McDaniel said. “Alyx has become an integral part of our organization over the years. Her dedication, work ethic and incredible attention to detail will help the festival continue to grow and develop to its full potential in the years to come. This move will also allow Kim Haywood, our director of programming and festival director, to focus on year-round programming and expanding our statewide education program.”
Each fall, deadCENTER staff and volunteers travel to schools across the state to lead classes on film production, script writing, film festivals and basic storytelling. The program has connected with more than 3,000 students over the past two years.
Picard has served as a part-time program coordinator for the past two years, and volunteered with the festival in various capacities since 2006.
Previous experience includes administrative support for The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO), and an internship in the production office for the Michael Winterbottom feature film “The Killer Inside Me.”
Picard earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Oklahoma with a focus on creative writing and film studies, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the university’s Alumni Association.
deadCENTER Film Festival is Oklahoma’s largest film festival for the past 13 years and one of the “Top 20 Coolest Film Festivals in the World” according to MovieMaker magazine. The festival provides year round events to support its mission to promote, encourage and celebrate the independent film arts.
