EIGHTH ANNUAL DEADCENTER FILM FESTIVAL JUNE 11-15
The 8th Annual deadCENTER Film Festival takes place all over downtown Oklahoma City June 11-15.  Screening over 90 films in five days, the festival venues include the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, Harkins Bricktown Theater, Kerr Auditorium, Independent Artists of Oklahoma Gallery, Ronald J Norick Downtown Library, and two free, outdoor screenings.  Featuring the popular Panel Series and many networking events and parties, deadCENTER will live up to its name as “The Top Festival in Oklahoma.”
The Festival Kick-Off Party and free outdoor screening on Wednesday, June 11th honors the urban renewal and history of film in Oklahoma as “Rainbow Around the Sun” shines onto Sheridan.  Beginning with an exclusive party at the Film Exchange Building and spilling onto Lee and Sheridan for the screening, the Kick-Off event sets the perfect tone for the festival.  “deadCENTER is a festival that was founded and continues to be run by filmmakers,” says Rainbow Around the Sun producer and Chief Operating Officer of deadCENTER Film, Kim Haywood.  “Being a filmmaker and running the festival are very similar – the deadlines are different, but the magic stays the same.”
The official Opening Night of the fest is Thursday, June 12th.   After having a sip and snack at the Opening Night party on the roof, festival- goers can enjoy the Oklahoma premiere of “American Teen” at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.  Attending director, Nanette Burstein won the Documentary Directing award at Sundance for her film, which showcases one of the brightest voices in independent film.  Screenings begin at most deadCENTER venues on Thursday and continue throughout the weekend.
Friday, June 13th features the most anticipated events of the annual fest.  Oklahomans are well represented at the festival with two favorites, “Okie Shorts” and “Unsolved” screening at the Kerr Auditorium.  For attendees who like a little fear in their flickers, Horror Shorts and Midnight Shorts at the IAO Gallery  - with the Friday Night Frolic as the cream of this Oreo cookie - are always a Friday night treat.
The festival offers a lot of insight into the film industry with the Panel Series.  “It’s like a two-day film school,” promises Program Director Melissa Scaramucci.  With topics exploring funding, animation, screenwriting, music, and networking, the Panel Series offers those on the outside and inside of the film business new information and connections vital to success in film.
The festival rushes through Saturday to the final outdoor screening on the Lawn at 3rd and EK Gaylord.   Following the awards presentation at 9pm, deadCENTER is proud to present “Nerdcore Rising”.  This hilarious music documentary follows MC Frontalot, the father of the latest hip-hop movement, on his first national tour.  Music industry heavyweights like Prince Paul, J-Live and even Weird Al Yankovic weigh in on the left-lobe heavy stylings of the nerdiest MC.   After the film, festival attendees may attend the annual Closing Night Party at Nonna’s Purple Bar.
The festival wraps up on Sunday, June 15th with the Best of Fest at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.  Showcasing the short films awarded the night before, this screening highlights the very best in independent cinema.
All-Access passes are $100, Screening passes are $50, and tickets to individual films are $10.  Advance, discounted passes may be purchased through June 1 on the deadCENTER website.  For more information or to purchase passes online, please go to www.deadcenterfilm.org
